Brooklands School

Pond Project

May 23 - Yorkshire Agricultural Society

Yorkshire Agricultural Society

The Charitable Activities meeting was held last week and the committee has kindly awarded Brooklands School £800 for our natural wildlife/pond area.

The area was previously overgrown and contained some rubbish.  It was partially cleared by a hardworking group of volunteers from Bowman Riley in June 2022.

Birch class have taken on the project and photographs of progress will be appearing.

With the kind donation from YAS we are hoping to have a pond dipping area which will include installing flags, seats, pond plants and a solar fountain which all together should hopefully encourage some pond life (tadpoles, newts, creepy crawlies!!)

In the remaining area we hope to plant shrubs/plants/wildflowers and and hopefully some vegetables.  The bug house we have in school will be relocated in to this area too.

We would like to thank the team at Bowman Riley and The Yorkshire Agricultural Society for supporting this project.

June 22 - Bowman Riley

Brooklands School are creating a natural wildlife garden with a pond and seating area.  We gratefully received help from a team of volunteers from Bowman Riley are from left to right Beth Fannon, Sam Birks, Ben Stone, Mark Hayton & Piers Harrison.

The team professed to have had a great day and said they were really well looked after!  They have promised to come up with a plan for the rest of the area and get some more volunteers ready to support again.
