Careers Education and Guidance

Careers education is a vital aspect of the curriculum. It is embedded throughout school and taught as a separate subject from year 9 onwards. Lower down the school it is integrated into Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship programmes of study. Careers Education includes work experience, links and visits to local employers, community and training advisors a whole school Industry Day with sale and enterprise opportunities and visits to local colleges. There are particularly good links with Craven College in Skipton.

A Careers Advisor supports the 14 – 19 Careers Curriculum (outlined below) and attends Annual Person Centred Reviews for pupils from year 9. The Careers Service makes a valuable contribution to the transition planning process from Key Stage 4. There is also close liaison with the social Care and Health Community Teams which support the transfer of pupils to adult services and further education for example through regular transition external agency meetings.
